What is expanded learning? Expanded learning refers to after-school, summer, and intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.  

Resilience Corps Associates

We are looking for professional, reliable, and passionate people who want to gain experience in the expanded learning field working with students in grades K-8. This position will support expanded learning programs Summer 2024.    

These are part-time positions. Associates will work 20 hours per week for the Summer 2024 term, beginning June 2024 and ending August 2024.  Financial compensation, training, and professional development opportunities for this position will be provided and coordinated by the San José Public Library Foundation.    

Associates serving the length of the program term will receive the following:  

  • A competitive hourly wage of $25.50 an hour 

  • On-the-job training and support from your host organization 

  • Monthly Professional Development Workshops (For AY Term)

  • Opportunities to network with educational organizations

  • Support and resources to transition into permanent full-time or part-time employment in the expanded learning and education field 

Professional Development Workshops 

You will be required to attend professional development workshops to support and further your career goals. The workshops will include a combination of personal workforce professional development such as resume building, interview skills, financial literacy, and career exploration, as well as educational content-specific workshops. You will be compensated for attending these workshops.  

Summer Host Partner Organizations

  • Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) Recreation of City Kids (R.O.C.K.) program: Support K-8 grade students with homework help, academic enrichment, and STEAM activities at PRNS afterschool programs. 

  • San José Public Library: Support K-8th grade students in SJPL's summer and after-school library programming located at library branches throughout the City of San José.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment, and recreation activity, using curriculum, materials, and best practices provided by the program provider.  

  • Ensure student safety by following CDC (Centers for Disease Control) public health and safety guidelines and best practices.  

  • Participate in Professional Development workshops 

Eligibility Requirements and Qualifications   

  • Applicants must be San Jose residents and provide proof of San Jose address  

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old

  • Priority to low-income, former foster, justice-involved, unemployed, and/or out-of-school youth 

  • Priority to first-generation college and graduate students   

  • Ability to pass a background check   

  • Ability to provide a clear TB test 

  • COVID-19 vaccine verification or approved medical or religious exemption 

  • Ability to commit to the program employment term: June 2024 to August 2024 and attend orientation scheduled June 3-7, 2024

  • Available to work Monday to Friday 

  • Available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week for Summer 2024 

This job program is funded through the Resilience Corps Initiative at the City of San José and the Californians For All Youth Workforce Development Program.  Resilience Corps Associate positions will be provided and coordinated by the San José Public Library Foundation.
