2025 Spring Resilience Corps Associate

What is expanded learning? Expanded learning refers to after-school, summer, and intersession learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences.  

Resilience Corps Associates

We are looking for professional, reliable, and passionate people who want to gain experience in the expanded learning field working with students in grades K-8. This position will support expanded learning programs during the Spring 2025 academic Spring semester.    

These are part-time positions beginning in January 2025 and ending in June 2025. Financial compensation, training, and professional development opportunities for this position will be provided and coordinated by the San José Public Library Foundation.    

Associates serving the length of the program will receive the following:  

  • A competitive hourly wage of $25.50 an hour 

  • On-the-job training and support from your host organization 

  • Monthly Professional Development Workshops

  • Opportunities to network with educational organizations and corporate partners

  • Support and resources to transition into permanent full-time or part-time employment in the expanded learning, education field and other related fields

Professional Development Workshops 

You will be required to attend monthly professional development workshops to support and further your career goals. The workshops will include a combination of personal workforce professional development such as resume building, interview skills, financial literacy, and career exploration, as well as educational content-specific workshops. You will be compensated for attending these workshops.  

Current Partner Organizations

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley: Support K-8 grade students with homework, sports, and art at Boys & Girls Club afterschool programs.  

  • Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County: Support K-6 grade students with homework help, academic enrichment, and other educational and fun activities at their school sites.

  • Mount Pleasant Elementary School District After School (MPAS): Support K-6th grade students with homework help, academic enrichment, and other educational and fun activities at their school sites.

  • San José Public Library: Support K-8th grade students in SJPL's after-school library programming located at library branches throughout the City of San José

  • Think Together: Support K-6th grade students with homework help, academic enrichment, and other educational and fun activities at their school sites.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Provide homework assistance, academic enrichment, technology education and recreation activity, using curriculum, materials, and best practices provided by the program provider.  

  • Ensure student safety by following CDC (Centers for Disease Control) public health and safety guidelines and best practices.  

  • Participate in monthly Professional Development workshops 

Eligibility Requirements and Qualifications   

  • Applicants must be San Jose residents and provide proof of San Jose address  

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old

  • Priority to low-income, former foster, justice-involved, unemployed, and/or out-of-school youth 

  • Priority to first-generation college and graduate students   

  • Ability to pass a background check   

  • Ability to provide a negative TB test 

  • COVID-19 vaccine verification or approved medical or religious exemption 

  • Ability to commit to the program employment term: January 2025 through June 2025 and attend an Orientation January 6th to the 10th

  • Available to work after-school hours, Monday to Friday, approximately between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm  

  • Available to work a minimum of 15 hours per week, not to exceed 20 hours per week 

This job program is funded through the Resilience Corps Initiative at the City of San José and the Youth Service Corps.  Resilience Corps Associate positions will be provided and coordinated by the San José Public Library Foundation.
